Old Dale Drifters
Each time guitarist Mickey Smay has come out to stay with us we’ve been able to record at least one song with Jim Austin on bass. We call our Trio the Old Dale Drifters, named after the Old Dale mining district east of 29 Palms, CA.
Its been a blast working on these songs with Mickey. First we recorded “Red Barn Boogie” when he was just 14 and then last year we worked out “Thats a Plenty” when he had just turned 16.
The 45 is now available on iTunes, Apple Music, Google play, Amazon, Pandora and Iheartradio. Or you can just click this link: https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/old-dale-drifters-single/1355145741
Bella Speelman & TK Smith – Georgia Camp Meeting
When Bella came to California a few weeks ago for the NAMM show, she drove out to the shop for a visit. Now she’s back for a second time to spend ten days with us in the shop. It can’t be all work and no play……
Monthly Motivation – Whit Smith
Most of you know Whit Smith from his band Hot Club of Cowtown. Whit’s playing has always been inspiring for me and this morning I noticed that he’s putting up a daily guitar lesson/idea on his YouTube channel. There’s a ton of inspiration to be had at no charge. Thought I’d pass it along. See Whit’s Youtube Channel here.
Portraits From An RV – Monica Frisell
One of the great things about living down the road from a National Park and Pappy and Harriett’s is that we get a lot of fun, interesting and creative visitors.
Last Spring, photographer, Monica Frisell, embarked on a journey that started in Seattle and ended months later in New York City where she lives. For this trip she purchased a 1988 Toyota Sea Breeze RV and turned it into her darkroom, hotel and transportation for herself and her pup Lucy. The purpose of the trip was to gather stories from interesting people along the way and photograph them.
When Monica asked if she could park in front of our house for a couple of days along the journey, we were happy to support her creative endeavor anyway we could. She had the chance to spend time in Joshua Tree, get to know the desert and she spent some time in our shop. TK never likes to have his photo taken but Monica’s work is so beautiful that we wanted to share it. See more information about her project “Looking Forward” and her other work here.
